About

Among many things, I am a nature lover, loud laugher, and avid reader & writer. My spouse and I, along with our spunky cat, Thor, call Saint Paul, Minnesota, Mni Sota Makoce, home.

This quote from Julia Cameron author of The Writer’s Way sums up my belief about writing and the creative process:  “Creativity – like human life itself – is born in darkness”.

My work is largely influenced by both my professional and personal experiences and is anchored around topics of identity, spirituality, racial justice, family, and books! One of my poems “A New Frontera” was published as well as this article “Yearning to Breathe Free: Immigration in the Past and Present” on the G92 website.

My writing is influenced by my love for the dance of words on paper in the form of poetry; the complex narrative that my ancestors had on this country as beneficiaries of white supremacy and immigrants struggling to ‘make it in America’; the paradoxical and mystical nature of faith that too often has been pushed aside in the name of conquest; and the beautiful, hilarious, and pain-filled moments of everyday life.

I hope my work will inspire, build empathy and strike a chord of relate-ability within you and those around you.
